| Certification Options Certification allows you to enhance your credentials and your practice in the field of childbirth education. If you are not currently certified, CEA-OC would highly recommend that you consider certification as your next professional step. Each of the organizations listed below will have its own list of requirements for obtaining and maintaining one's certiifcation in childbirth education. These requirements are independent of your involvement with CEA-OC. International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) Lamaze International The Bradley Method Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Assocation (CAPPA) Assocation of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators (ALACE) Hypnobabies Network Many of these organizations have childbirth education trainings locally (here in Southern California) or trainings at various locations throughout the country. We encourage you to browse the above websites and research which certification option might be best for you. Certified by CEA-OC? If you are currently certified by CEA-OC, you must recertify every two (2) years. A recertification fee of $50.00 must be paid each time you recertify. CEA-OC no longer offers initial certification to childbirth educators. You must use one of the above options to obtain your initial certification. If you allow your CEA-OC certification to lapse, then you must recertify with another certifying organization (such as ICEA, or Lamaze). For more information, please contact our CEA-OC Recertification Coordinator. The requirements for recertification are detailed on the recertification application.
