You must pay $50.00 for the recertification fee. Make checks payable to CEA-OC.
You will need a combination of the options listed below totaling 24 contact hours every two (2)
years to maintain certification.
Conference attendance is not required but strongly recommended. You have the opportunity
to keep up with the latest developments in your field, network with other professionals and gain
CA BRN approved contact hours. Please make conference attendance a priority.
Please note: If you allow your certification to lapse, you must re-certify with another certifying
organization (such as ICEA or Lamaze).
Recertification Options
1. California BRN approved contact hours (provider number and name needed) in the field of
Maternal/Child Health. There is no need to send certificates of attendance or copies.
2. Birth Observation (3 contact hours per birth observed) It must be outside of regular work
hours. A signed form is required and we have guidelines available to assist you in making
the most of the experience.
3. Childbirth Education Class Observation (2 contact hours per class observed) Observe
another instructor (class must be a minimum of 2 hours) and submit a signed form.
Guildelines are available to make the most of your experience.
4. Book or Film Review (1 contact hour per book/film reviewed) The topic must be in the
Maternal/Child Health field. The review must be written in a form suitable for publication
in the CEA-OC newsletter. The review must be typed.
5. Authoring a journal or newsletter article (2 contact hours per article). The article must be
published in a Maternal/Child Health journal within the recertification period or submitted in a
form suitable for publication in the CEA-OC newsletter. The article must be typed.
Please use the Recertification Checklist to indicate how you have accumulated your contact
hours. You may use additional paper if necessary. Return the $50.00 recertification fee,
recertification application, checklist, and related forms (birth or class observation forms) to the
